	After more than 50 years away at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland, Maine, the "Fresnel" lens of the Baker's Island Light was returned to Salem in 2026. Essex Heritage facilitated the return of the lens and launched a $20,000 campaign for conservation assessment, a custom display case, UV protection, environmental monitoring, and interpretive exhibit development.		After more than 50 years away at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland, Maine, the "Fresnel" lens of the Baker's Island Light was returned to Salem in 2026. The lens was produced by Chance Brothers & Co. in 1903 in England and installation on Baker's Island took place in 1926. The lens guided seaman through Salem Sound from 1926 to 1972 when it was removed due to automation and housed at Maine Lighthouse Museum.

			Essex Heritage facilitated the return of the lens and launched a $20,000 campaign (titled "Bringing the Light Home") for conservation assessment, a custom display case, UV protection, environmental monitoring, and interpretive exhibit development. The late Coast Guardsman, Ken Black (known by the lighthouse preservation community as "Mr. Lighthouse"), played a large part in the preservation of the lens. Black arranged for the Fresnel lens to be placed on display at the Shore Village Museum, now known as the Maine Lighthouse Museum.

			Visitors can view the lens on Baker's Island in the Assistant Keeper's House.

	The doctor converted a farmhouse into a hotel called the Winne-Egan with 50 guest rooms. Guests could sail, fish, swim, play tennis and play 6 rounds of golf.
