There have been changes in the downtown area of Salem in the twentieth century, especially when big retail shops

like Almy's and Sears and Roebuck, moved out when the North Shore Shopping Center, or the Northshore Mall on Route 128 in Peabody opened in 1958.

It took another 20 years to build up the tourism industry including places like Pickering Wharf and to see more museums

around the Witch Trial Hysteria open.
