Nancy D. Harrington was President of Salem State College from 1990-2007, the school's first woman president.


Harrington was the school's 12th president and presided over the institution for 17 years. She was a Salem High and Salem State alumna who earned her bachelor's degree in 1960 and her master's degree in 1963.
Harrington received her doctorate from Boston University.
During her long tenure, she was also the Dean of Continuing Education and Special Programs, Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs in Graduate and Continuing Education and Acting President of Academic Affairs.
