Jeffery Brothers, a furniture store on Canal Street had been in business since 1932.

Jeffery Brother Furniture store on Canal Street filed for bankruptcy in January of 2009, after facing insurmountable debt. The brothers stated, "with the recent passing of our mother, along with having to deal with a costly environmental cleanup of our warehouse property, we are facing deep financial issues."

The company shut down full-time operations in 2007.

In 2000, Jeffery Brothers bought the former Titus Furniture building on Jefferson Avenue and planned to move there. Eventually, those plans were abandoned.
