The Salem History Society was incorporated in June 2007. The society is an informational society, dedicated to the study of, research in, and the professional dissemination of the history of Salem and Essex County.

There are no membership fees and membership is open to anyone.

The Salem History Society as of 2016 appears to be inactive.
