Started by John Athanasopoulos as Olde Salem Brewery in 1995 at 278 Derby Street across from his other business, Brother's Deli.
He sold the business to Joe and Steve Slesar of Boston Beer Works in 1996. They already owned a restaurant in Boston near Fenway Park.
It was renamed after the sale, to Salem Beer Works.
It closed the restaurant in 2021.
