Mechanic Hall Theatre was located on the corner of Crombie and Essex Street. It was built in 1839
and destroyed by fire on Feb. 4, 1905.
Built as a meeting place and function hall for the Salem Charitable Mechanic Association.
The fire started from the moving picture projector and spread rapidly. There was over eleven hundred people
in the theatre and they all escaped safely.
Later, the Empire Theatre was built on the site.
