In 1967, John Boris and a former partner opened Essex Stationery on Essex Street. A few years later, the name changed to Essex Office Inc. and the business took off.

Boris merged the business in 1997 with a Cambridge company and became a partner. Shortly thereafter, that merged entity was sold to

Corporate Express, one of the larges commercial office supply companies in the world.

A few years later, Boris and his son Stephen decided to reopen Essex Office. The store was located next to Crosby's Market on Canal Street.

It also operated at 10 Boston Street.
