Destination Salem is a public-private partnership that is Salem's official marketing partner.
The Chamber of Commerce was running Haunted Happenings events prior to 1992. Then starting around the 300th Anniversary of the Witch Trials, in 1992, there formed an "Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs."
By 1998, the "Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs" became a public-private partnership called Destination Salem. It was codified as the city's official marketing partner in 2008.
