L. Paul Madore was a long-time choral director in Salem, well-known for his leadership of the Paul Madore Chorale, which he formed in 1964.

Madore graduated from St. Joseph's High School then went on to Boston College, where he studied French language and literature.

After 2 years with the state department, he settled into a 27 year long post teaching French at Salem State College.

He was always passionate about music and studied piano, organ and voice. He studied choral conducting and piano at Boston University and

then established the Paul Madore Chorale in 1964.

For 50 years, Madore ran the chorale which performed music from many different periods and styles in various North Shore venues and recorded 10 music CDs.

He took the Chorale on two tours of France and they performed for the Vatican in 1997.

Madore was also the Music Director for several churches over the years- most recently the First Church of Salem, from which he retired in 2017.

Besides music, Paul was an avid sailor, and long-time member of the Boston Yacht Club. He was also a world traveler and gourmet cook.

Madore passed away at the age 85 on June 14, 2021.
