John D. Keenan, a Salem resident, was most notably State Representative for the 7th Essex District from 2005-2014.

A cum laude graduate of Harvard College and a graduate of Suffolk University Law School, he served as assistant D.A. for the

eastern district of Essex County, city solicitor for the city of Salem and an attorney in his own law practice before working at the state level.

In his five terms in the state legislation, he has served as House Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts & Cultural

Development, and House Chair of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities & Energy.

After leaving the state Legislature in 2014, he began working a Salem State University as vice president for administration.

In April of 2017, he was named the new President of Salem State University, when Patricia Meservey retired.
