Mathew Robson (1833-1929) was a notable figure in the leather industry in Salem for nearly 60 years. Born in Ireland, he came to Salem in 1856.

From humble beginnings he rose to be a successful businessman in the leather industry, with Robson Leather Company.

He became known for his active public service. He was president of the Y.M.C.A. and was involved with the Wesley Church and a trustee of the Salem Hospital and the Plummer Farm School.
