Renzo Ippoliti, owned and ran Salem Paint Co. for 46 years, at 75 North Street.

After graduating from Northeastern University with a degree in chemical engineering,

he worked for Gloucester Paints for a short time. He then decided to start a paint manufacturing business for his own in Salem.

Salem Paint specialized in making high-end interior and exterior home paints.

He planned to pass his business on to his son, Lawrence, who was president of the company. But Lawrence tragically died at age 45 of

a heart attack. He tried to sell the business but was unsuccessful.

He closed his doors in 1997.
