Notch Brewery and Tap Room opened in an old brick warehouse at the rear of 283 Derby Street in July 2016.

It is owned by Salem resident Chris Lohring, who has been brewing beer since 1993. He founded Notch Brewing in

2010 and brewed out of a few Boston and North Shore breweries until he was able to open his own place.

The 5,000 feet square Brewery brings a German beer hall flavor to downtown Salem. People sit at communal tables

and there are no televisions so people will socialize with friends and meet others.

In 2021, the brewery was gifted the popular neon sign of the "Salem Witch" that hung for years at the Salem Beer Works. It will

be hung at Notch. Historical photos from the 1950's show the witch sign sitting on top of the Salem Sign Co. on Highland Avenue.
