Lt. Colonel Samuel Carlton (Aug. 11, 1731- Mar. 28, 1804)

Continental Army officer and member of the Massachusetts General Court. During the Revolution he raised a regiment at Salem in 1777 and marched to Fort Ticonderoga. Served under George Washington at Valley Forge. He is buried at Howard Street cemetery with his wife Eunice (Hunt).

Lt. Colonel Carlton was paralyzed from the waist down during service.

His former residence is on Union Street in Salem.
