In 2026, the FIFA World Cup brought many Scottish football fans to Salem. Portions of the World Cup were held in Foxborough at Gillette Stadium and many Scottish tourists (known as the Tartan Army), flocked to Salem for the match.

The tourists were greeted positively and filled the bars and pubs around the city. A traffic cone was placed on the head of the Bewitched statue as a practical joke as part of longstanding Scottish tradition.

Mayor Pangallo wrote a letter to the Scotland's First Minister, John Swinney, and received a letter back thanking the city of Salem for their hospitality and warm welcome during the city's quadricentennial.
