Prison Lane

St. Peter Street, the site on which St. Peter's Church sits, was once called Prison Lane. The Essex County Jail was at the foot of St. Peter's Street.

"The Witchcraft Jail" was the residence of Alfred Goodell on Federal Street just off St. Peter Street. For more information see the Old Witch Jail entry.
