The southern end of Northfields including Mason Hill, Carletonville, Ledge Hill and Harmony Grove was for many years so attractive on account of its natural beauty with winding river, beautiful groves and fine views, it was called "Paradise."

"The sandy, green banked shore of North River" was nicknamed "Paradise" according to Gannon.
