The Eagle , a 295 foot three-masted barque billed as the largest American tall ship visited Salem on August 9th, 2002 for three days before heading

to Boston. The Eagle is a U. S. Coast Guard tall ship. It came to Salem to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Nathaniel Bowditch's

Practical Navigator. The book is still carried on all Coast Guard and Navy ships.

There were public tours of the ship on the days it was docked here.
