Anthony V. Salvo (2/11/1928- 5/22/2017) was the first Italian-American mayor of Salem, serving three 2-year terms from 1984 to 1989.

He was a long-time teacher in the public schools, owned and operated a driving school. Along with his brothers,

he served for a time as a Salem policeman. He was married for 53 years to Lillian (Campbell).

In retirement, he joined the Writer's Group at Salem's Council on Aging, where he wrote essays, some of which

were published in the book,

He was also a prolific artist whose paintings were exhibited in various places in Salem.
