Located at 252 Essex Street, Upton-Paine Studio specialized in creating quaint souvenir painted china.

Much of it was displayed in the window of "Hepzibah's Shop" in the House of the Seven Gables.

Ida Upton Paine was one of the prominent artists. Originally, the souvenir was painted in oil colors

on pebbles, and the witch figure was selected as typical of Salem. Later, they switched to painting

on china.
