Born in Salem, Charles Dolan (1916-1998) was educated in St. James Elementary School, then graduated from Salem High School

in 1934. He was captain of the varsity football team and president of his graduating class.

He lettered in football and track at Urban Military Academy in Los Angeles, California.

Dolan entered the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the SS Mark Hanna in World War II and was honorably discharged as a lieutenant

junior grade.

Dolan was appointed to the city of Salem physical education staff in 1945 as a teacher of health, physical education and driver's

education. He served as head of the physical education department until retiring in 1979. He was inducted in the Salem High School

Hall of Fame in Nov. 1993.
