Staley McDermet is an architect who lived in Salem for many years and was instrumental in renovating some of the historical properties in Salem from the 1970's through the 1990's.

Some of his projects were the Joshua Ward House on Washington St., the John Bertram House off the common, and the Downing Block (173-177 Essex Street.) Many of these buildings had McIntire details that made them worth saving.
