North Shore Babies Hospital was started by the Babies Summer Hospital Society, after a cholera epidemic in 1909. After being located on Baker's Island, in 1910, the hospital moved to the Ropes Estate at the end of Dearborn Street in North Salem.  At first open only in summer, in 1926 the hospital stayed opened year round.
