Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 168 countries worldwide, approximately 1,209,790 Rotarians belong to more than 32,462 Rotary clubs. Salem's Rotary Club began with 23 members in 1918 and has grown exponentially in its 90 years as a club. The Salem Rotary is known for its generosity toward Salem High School graduates, with its annual scholarships to deserving seniors. Rotary Club meets once a week for luncheon at the Hawthorne Hotel in downtown Salem.
