The United States Post Office branch in Salem, on Margin Street, was built in 1931. The Cornerstone was placed on Sept. 21, 1932 and the building officially opened on July 31, 1933. Timetable:

July 11, 1931 - Beverly Wrecking awarded demolition contract.

July 13, 1931 - Work began clearing site.

Sept. 21, 1932 - Cornerstone placed.

July 29, 1933 - Pictures (before and after)

July 31, 1933 - Post Office opens.
