This film adaptation of Henry James' novel, The Europeans, was released in 1979. Some of the locations in Salem that were filmed were Gardner-Pingree House (128 Essex St.),and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Derby St. This was one of the first of the literary adaptations of the Merchant-Ivory film company.
