- This film adaptation of Henry James' novel, The Europeans, was released in 1979.
- Some of the locations in Salem that were filmed for the movie were:
Gardner-Pingree House (128 Essex St.),and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Derby Street
- This was one of the first of the literary adaptations of the Merchant-Ivory film company, now well-known for this film genre.
- Lee Remick played one of the lead roles.
