Essex Heritage

Essex Heritage is a non-profit that manages, preserves, and promotes the Essex National Heritage Area, which encompasses 34 cities and towns in Essex County, Massachusetts. The Essex National Heritage Area was created by an act of Congress in 1996.

• Essex Heritage has 17 members on their Board of Trustees and over 100 Commissioners, all of whom are either residents or work in Essex County.

• In 2026, Essex Heritage celebrated 25 years of their Trails and Sails program. Trails and Sails is an annual free event series showcasing hiking trails, historic sites, museums, farms, activities for families and more of Essex National Heritage Area. The program offers 16 days of free events and cultural immersion.
