Hussey, William Penn

William Penn Hussey was well-known as builder/owner of the Riverbank mansion in Danversport built c1883.

He is the figure sitting on horseback in the statue across the road from the mansion, used as the New England Home for the Deaf. (Now condominiums)

He was the founder, treasurer and General Manager of Broad Cove Coal Company.

He was born at North Berwick Maine in 1847. His father was an inventor of the famous Hussey plow. At the age of 18 he went to California

where he acquired a thorough knowledge of the mining business. He returned to the east in 1872 eventually settling in the Danvers area.
