Ice Cream Shops

From Salem Links and Lore

Salem has been home to ice cream shops since the mid-eighteen hundreds. Salem Willows was one such place

with Hobbs Ice Cream Stand a home-town favorite, but there was more. Salem had a Ice cream factory in 1956,

based at 271 Essex Street. They boasted five different flavors. Sometimes the word "saloon" was used as well

to denote a large variety. The Holly Tree was at No.9 Central Street. They advertise "Ice Cream and Dining Rooms".

Webber's Ice Cream on 205 Essex had an ice cream wagon as well.

Gilbert H. Hood of the famous H.P. Hood Company was here in Salem in 1921 learning all about it while based at Salem's ice cream

factory.
