Locke Regulator Company was a manufacturer of Steam Vehicle parts and fittings as well as copper or steel boilers in Salem.
The company entered the automobile manufacturing field early in the century.
This company, was founded by two New Hampshire brothers, Nathaniel and Alpheus Locke, who came down to Salem to make their fortune.
The large Locke factory was located on the banks of the North River in Salem, now the site of a junkyard and a car wash.
In 1902, Locke built a four passenger steam runabout (early automobile) that they named "Puritan". The speed could reach 20 mpg and the engine was rated at 6 horse power.
