Mackey, Herb

From Salem Links and Lore

Herb Mackey (Nov.16,1928-May 13, 2021) was known for his sculpture yard on Blaney Street near the Salem Ferry.

Mackey was a graduate of Essex Agricultural School in 1948 and an honorably discharged Army veteran.

Mackey was President of Thomas Mackey & Sons, Inc. of Salem and a long-time communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, and a member

of the Knights of Columbus.

"He enjoyed welding metal art and displaying his creations at his sculpture yard on Blaney Street in Salem. He was uniquely creative, had

a great talent and was amused watching others enjoy his conceptions", according to his obituary.

His creatures were made out of salvaged scrap iron. His outdoor display inspired Chad Carlberg to film a YouTube documentary of Mackey and his craft called

"One's Man's Trash".
