Salem Skipper

From Salem Links and Lore

Salem Skipper was a service started in 2020. It is a rideshare service that allows Salem residents (as well as limited pickups/drop offs for Danvers and Beverly residents) for $2 a ride. $1 for seniors, students, or disabled customers. The rideshare can be accessed by downloading their app or calling their phone number.

  • In 2026, the city secured a $1 million grant MassDOT and the Healey-Driscoll administration. This money will be used to keep the rideshare program in operation.
  • The Salem Skipper announced that they will be ending services to Beverly and Danvers on July 1, 2026.
  • The Salem Skipper announced that they will be ending services completely on August 2, 2026 after the expiration of the grant used to run the program. The city applied for a $3M grant for continued service but only received $1M, which would only fund the operation through its' closing date of August 2. Local officials are working on other funding avenues to fund a service such as the Skipper again.
  • The city announced in June 2026 that they will continue operations in Salem until September 30, 2026 after acquiring one-time funding. Service to Beverly and Danvers ceased on June 30. The city is continuing to look into additional funding to keep the operation in service but warned citizens that there will likely be interruptions in service after September 30.
