Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week began in 1982 as a reaction to a significant increase in book challenges in libraries, bookstores, and schools. Usually held during the last week of September, this annual event underscores the importance of free and open access to information. It unites the entire book community—librarians, educators, authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers of all kinds—in a collective celebration of the freedom to explore and express ideas.
Banned Books Week will be held September 22-28, 2024. The theme of this year’s event is Freed Between the Lines.
