The Children’s Room at The Salem Public Library

The Children’s Room at the Salem Public Library is home to lots of fun, educational, and inspirational materials to use both within and beyond the library!
We have books for all ages and reading levels, Wonderbooks, music CDs, movies, puzzles, and games to check out. We also have toys, computers, and tablets to use in the library.
When the weather’s nice, our courtyard is a great place to play and meet new friends. Inside, we’ve got plenty of places to sit, snack, work and chat.
Our story times, book groups and activities are always free, and are offered year-round. Our programs are designed for age groups ranging from newborns to teens. Please check the website, or ask a librarian, about specific times and dates.
Our greatest resource is our friendly and knowledgeable library staff. We are always available to help answer questions and find materials. We’re open to suggestions, so let us know if there’s something you’d like to see at the library.
You may contact the Children’s Room at 978-744-9667 with any questions or concerns.
Our Librarians
Ms. Simone, Head of Youth Services
Ms. Simone runs our Tuesday afternoon story time. She is an avid reader, baking enthusiast, and lover of all things cute and furry (and most things slithery and scaly). A native Martian, Ms. Simone came to Salem several years ago as part of an interplanetary librarian exchange. When asked what she likes most about Earth, her answers are “chocolate, really soft pillows, and oxygen” (in that order).

Ms. Suzie is in charge of our Spanish and media collections, and she runs our bilingual storytimes. Ms. Suzie makes monthly visits to the Salem Community Child Care centers and offers a monthly Pop Up storytime at FreshExpress Laundry (95 Congress Street in Salem).
Ms. Jennifer can be found helping patrons in all 3 departments of the Salem Public Library: Children’s Room, Main Circulation Desk and in the Reference Room. Jennifer is a certified Baby Signs instructor with over 12 years of experience teaching young children and their families the joys of using infant sign language to communicate. She loves family time, reading, baking, gardening, crafting and cheering on the Bruins, Red Sox, North Shore Navigators, and Patriots.
